John Peers showed enough on debut for Australia in a Davis Cup tennis doubles today to have secured a spot in future ties, according to two former captains.

Although the Melburnian and Lleyton Hewitt, who returned from retirement, fell to the legendary US doubles combination of twins Mike and Bob Bryan in five sets at Kooyong, Peers earned rave reviews.

The Bryan brothers claimed a 2-1 lead for America ahead of Sunday’s singles rubbers when successful 6-3 6-3 4-6 4-6 6-3.
